About the role

This isn't your traditional finance role. As CFO, you will be a key leader at Nillumbik Shire Council, shaping its future by providing strategic financial guidance to political and executive stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Culture and Performance, you will drive organisational effectiveness and fiscal responsibility, enabling the delivery of high-quality services and community outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to broaden your leadership impact across a diverse portfolio, combining Finance, Procurement, Assets, and Strategic Waste and Circular Economy. You will act as a trusted advisor, translating financial insights into sustainable strategies that align resources with our strategic priorities.


Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop high-performing teams across the Finance, Procurement, Assets, and Strategic Waste and Circular Economy portfolios.
  • Ensure long-term financial sustainability through effective planning, forecasting, and investment management.
  • Oversee budgeting, revenue optimisation, and funding strategies.
  • Deliver strategic financial advice to executive and political leadership.
  • Champion accountability and performance, aligning operations with organisational goals.
  • Manage funding to meet Council's sustainability and community goals.


What we are looking for

We are seeking a dynamic, people-focused leader who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about making a tangible difference. You will bring:

  • A CPA or CA qualification and demonstrated experience in a senior financial management role
  • Proven experience as a senior financial leader, ideally within government or similarly complex sectors
  • Strong strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A track record of delivering organisational transformation and driving value
  • Expertise in financial governance, risk management, and long-term planning
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative approach.
